Course Outline/Objectives
What is an excellent company? In this course, we will analyze how companies are evaluated by the media and the government. For this we will consider media rankings and management awards such as the "most admired company", "the Malcolm Baldridge National Quality Award", "Fortune 500" rankings, the "Newsweek Global 500" list and the "Best Global Brands".
Furthermore, through case studies, we will learn about:
- the achievements and future strategies of major companies,
- management characteristics required for the growth and development of these firms, and
- what a company should be in order to serve society, looking in particular at IT and CSR as sub-topics.
There are appearances from guest speakers to highlight the major themes of the course:
- Speed-Management
- Customer-Orientation
- Social Enterprises
We will study companies which have the 3 above-mentioned characteristics, while using 1, 2 and 3 as a framework for corporate success.
