Course Outline/Objectives
There is great risk involved in the relationship between companies and society. The biggest risk is that action taken by a company (action that the company may consider trivial) can have a huge impact at a local and national level. Inappropriate action towards society can turn around the fortunes of a company in just one night.
In this course, we will focus on "corporate scandals and risk management" and "reaching social and local consensus on business activity" and discuss the following themes:
- We will analyze why companies often approach society and media with the wrong attitude. More specifically we will look at recent real life cases where scandals became national crises. We will also look at the measures employed by companies to cope with scandals, particularly when the scandals involved whistle blowing.
- We will study the factors and methods involved in reaching social and local agreement on business activity, including four particular steps necessary to recover trust.
