Professional Background

Teruaki Aoki graduated from the University of Tokyo's Faculty of Engineering in March 1964 and earned his Ph.D. at Northwestern University's Department of Materials Science and Engineering in June 1970. In January 1970, he joined Sony Corporation and assumed the post of Director in June 1989. In 1996, he became Managing Director of the company. In April 1998, he took on the post of President and COO of Sony Electronics, Inc. and gained much international experience in this role. He held a number of other senior positions including Senior Executive Managing Director of Sony Corporation (June 2003), President of Sony University (April 2005) and Executive Director of Sony Foundation for Education (May 2005). After his wealth of experience at Sony and its group companies, Mr. Aoki acquired the status of "Shayu" of Sony Corporation in 2006. He currently holds the post of President at Sony University, and is Vice-President of the Sony Foundation for Education. He also holds directorial positions at Micron Technology and Citizen Holdings. In addition, he is an advisory board member of the Kellogg school of management at North Western University, USA.
