Professional Background

Mr. Arai graduated from the University of Tokyo's Economics Department before starting his career with Tokyu Agency Inc. in 1951. There he served as manager of the research department and as Marketing Director-General. In 1967, he was promoted to the position of Management Executive for the company. Throughout his career, Mr. Arai has held a number of key executive positions at Tokyu Department store and Tokyu Corporation. In 1993, he became the President and Representative Director of Tokyu Agency Inc., and in 1995 he became an advisor to Tokyu Corporation. In addition, he was the Chairperson of the board of directors at the Tokyu Foundation for a Better Environment. Currently he is the Chairperson of the board of directors at the Pacific Ocean Society. Mr. Arai has translated many books such as "The 22 Immutable Laws of Marketing: Violate Them at Your Own Risk" and "New Positioning". He is also the author of "Human Power which Motivates a Person and an Organization" and "Glossary of Marketing Terms".
